Welcome to the Gunner’s Gear Tactical/Match
Ammunition Wallet Page!

There was a request for an ammunition wallet that carried more than 20
rounds, but was still manageable to carry, could be stacked in a ruck or dragbag,
and still function as a field tool. We
have messed around with these for awhile now, there are a bunch of prototypes
floating around in the hands of field testers, which include military snipers,
Law enforcement, match shooters, and enthusiasts. Based on the feedback from these end users,
this is the final result.
The wallet holds 30 rounds in 3 rows of 10.
This seemed to be the best compromise between quantity and bulk. It also gives law enforcement the ability to
carry mixed ammo loads in one place, and still have tactile separation. There are three versions, optimized for .223,
.308, and .300wm. The Elastic is heavy
duty Mil-Spec and tensioned to hold the rounds firmly but still slide out
reasonably well. I have loaded the
wallets up and shook them around like a madman, the rounds stayed in place
except under severe G forces.
There is stiffener material between the Cordura layers, behind the rows of
elastic to prevent it from bowing or bunching, but still be flexible. This is the same material used to stiffen
containers for skydiving rigs.
The first model was Velcro closed, but feedback from some of the Marine
Snipers at 29 Palms indicated that Velcro was less than desirable for field
use. Too noisy, thus the Para-cord and
cord-loc closure you see here. However,
some of the law enforcement guys liked the Velcro, so the wallets are available
with Velcro if you would prefer, it will go under the flap where the grommet is
on this one.
Another feature based on field feedback are the retention loops. There is one at each end of the middle row of
rounds. This allows the user to secure
the wallet to his person, or drag bag in the event of a hasty departure, or to
prevent losing it during movement.
The last modification is from the Match shooters. There was a desire to have a place for a load
data/come up’s card for use at matches.
Thus we extended the bottom and added the clear pocket, and as you can
see on the Desert Marpat, is covered with matching flap to prevent reflections. It actually does double duty as a separator
between the bottom two rows of rounds when folded. I put the plastic in the freezer for a day,
took it out and folded it in half, it didn’t crack. If you do not desire the window, we can
either make the pocket from Cordura, or no pocket on the flap, which ever you
would prefer. And no, a mildot master
will not fit in the pocket.
I would like to thank all of the guys that used and tested these to provide
feedback and improve the product, and especially Vern Harrison, the man that
started this idea to start with while I was fortunate to be training with him
at Central
Virginia Tactical.
